DAVE SATTLER, "The Lafayette Journal and Courier" - Lafayette, IN - E-mail | Archives

space Dave Sattler first applied for the job of editorial cartoonist forThe Lafayette Journal and Courier as a Purdue University student at the age of 19. He had been drawing cartoons for the local weekly paper The Lafayette Leader since high school. Dave graduated from Purdue in 1971 with a degree in Industrial Management. Over 38 years later, Dave is still drawing cartoons for The Lafayette Journal and Courier.

Over the years Dave has built a strong readership and leadership in the Greater Lafayette community. The citizens look to Dave for humor, direction, insight, nostalgia, and appreciate that he is not afraid to implement biting criticism when it is justified.

Through the years he has published three books of collected cartoons, Out of the Mothballs (1983), Lighter Lafayette (1994), and My View from Here (2004). All feature comments on pivotal events in Greater Lafayette, the state, and the nation over the years.

Dave has been selected for inclusion in "Best Editorial Cartoons of the Year" 16 times from 1982 to 2006.

He is a regular contributor to the Purdue Alumnus as well as numerous other academic publications. He frequently gives presentations for Purdue University on subject of creative thinking.

He received the Hoosier State Press Association Award for Best Editorial Cartoonist of 1996 and again in 2004.

Dave has served as a director on many community boards including Greater Lafayette Convention and Visitors, United Way of Greater Lafayette, Greater Lafayette Education Network, Indiana Vocational Technical College Development, and Tippecanoe Arts Federation.

In addition to all his community involvement he is, foremost, a husband to his wife, Nancy, devoted father to his four grown children and a doting grandfather.
